WHAT IS AN EDCAMP? / Why join?

Unlike traditional conferences which have schedules set months in advance by the people running the conference, Edcamp has an agenda that’s created by the participants at the start of the event. Instead of one person standing in front of the room talking for an hour, people are encouraged to have discussions and hands-on sessions. Sponsors don’t have their own special sessions or tables, all of the space and time are reserved for the things the people there want to talk about. People could pay hundreds of dollars to attend another conference, or they could go to Edcamp for free.

Built on principles of connected and participatory learning, Edcamp strives to bring teachers together to talk about the things that matter most to them: their interests, passions, and questions. Teachers who attend Edcamp can choose to lead sessions on those things that matter, with an expectation that the people in the room will work together to build understanding by sharing their own knowledge and questions. What is BBQ Edition? / Yum, I'm getting hungry now!

BBQ Edition adds a unique spin where we bring the outdoor vibe and excitement of South Florida to EdCamp.  Thanks to generous sponsorship, a BBQ lunch is provided for everyone and we will be enjoying it outside in the beautiful South Florida air while collaborating with others.  Don’t worry, if you are not the “outside type,” we have plenty of space for you to enjoy your delicious BBQ lunch in air conditioning. :-)

EdCamps are completely FREE for you to attend and join in the fun.  Thanks to generous donations, we are able to offset the cost of your attendance.  Thanks to Pine Crest School, we are able to host this awesome event at a beautiful location.
EdCamps are fun and casual, so please come dressed it what you would like, whether it is shorts and a tshirt, shirt and tie, tuxedo, chicken costume; you get the point. ;-)
Yes, of course! If you have an iPad, tablet, computer, etc., you can bring it and set it up to the guest network at the event.  You will have access to all of the sites you need to present, or get connected through social media. Each classroom space will have sound and projector for you to connect to.  Please bring any additional dongles you may need to connect your devices.
No YellingSorry, we want these to be authentic discussions.  Your role when presenting is to be more of a moderator or facilitator of a discussion.  Of course you can display examples, but we want this day to be all about the discussion of educational topics in schools. :-)
